Mandriva Linux One 2010.2 Gnome - Review

Boot-up takes a while to load but once loaded the magic begins, from a Mandrake Fan yes I am one of the many user who tested and fell in love with Mandrake. It was during my short stint in a local secondary school where I accidentally bumped into Mandrake and since I love tinkering with new application especially with open source but don’t get me wrong I’m no Linux nor Open Source expert I just happen to be one of the million Linux Newbie and would eventually part of the former user of Microsoft Products, sorry bill but you should try Linux in one of your seminars one time you would be amazed how much fun and exciting driving a Linux Distro!

Oops sorry, I know it was supposed to be a Mandriva Linux One 2010.2 gnome review I just lost a bit there anyway back to the review, again after a long but tolerable boot-up it was almost a perfect desktop OS (we’re still waiting for such OS) let us start my amazing rediscovery of Mandrake now Mandriva!

Installation

    as a newbie ( I think I am), the most frightening step is how to install a Linux Distribution! That's it plain and simple but for Linux Mint 10 Julia it was a breeze somewhat walking in the park the only annoyance I can consider is the initial screen where in it ask me to connect to the net prior to installation and for me it something unusual for such early stage of the installation process, nonetheless I opted not to connect for the time being and went on to the installation, the drive partitioning couldn't be easier like the one Julia offered! The Battle for the right Linux Distribution for my Emachine D730

For so long now many comment and reviews have been written, all pointing to the hostility of Acer Emachine towards the free and open source operating system or as we call it Linux Distribution! Since it would fun and informative on my part to actually disprove such accusation I decided to do a simple experiment with my acer Emachine D730.

For all the laptop (3) we bought it was always an Emachine laptop why? Well aside that its practical, it cater to the needs of my family, the specification can be line-up with some of the heavyweight in the business with some spare to loose so to speak, and for having a local branch here in our area that will/may/can service our unit in-case of something weird happen along the way.

Well enough with the unending saga of why Emachine, lets go on with the result of my simple review  for my Perfect Linux Flavor for my Emachine, first the following Linux Distribution where all tested;

My Emachine D730 and Isadora experience

I have been in the teaching profession long enough to explore and try many Open Source Application and Linux Distribution as well, I think when I left college Linux is still under incubation period. And we where already expose to the political and marketing arm of the would be World PC Kidnapper as far as operating system is concern.

    I for example was already using MS Windows 95 long before I knew Linux exist or Linus Torvalds for that matter, and I may say I'm quite good at it (using Bill Gates OS) and mind you the primary factor I could think of launching this piece of software from the ground up to its pedastal now is, the ease of use! I mean we must admit it using any variant of MS Operating System (excluding 3.1 and Win95) can be recognized as user friendly (newbie) all the time if not most of the time. And being one of the recipient, I would not proudly say yes, it is user friendly!
